London Produce Show welcomes the world

9 June 2014

The first ever London Produce Show & Conference has concluded with exhibitors, delegates and speakers alike proclaiming the inaugural event on 4-6 June a huge success and praising its innovative format.

The FPC and Produce Business magazine presented the “ingathering of people,” as Jim Prevor Perishable Pundit and editor-in-chief of Produce Business magazine described it and hundreds enjoyed the launch cocktail reception in the spectacular Great Room Balcony of the Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday evening overlooking the exhibition hall all set with 140 booths showcasing produce and services from six continents around the world. He told delegates: “You stand amidst the largest gathering of produce executives ever to be held in the British Isles, and we welcome you not simply to visit the event, but to be the event.”

Thursday morning dawned with a sumptuous breakfast in the Ballroom and a high-level panel discussion, during which Prevor probed the minds of 10 industry thought-leaders before a full-house.

US Embassy deputy-chief of mission Elizabeth Dibble then officially opened the exhibition reminding delegates and exhibitors of the highlights of US fresh-produce output such as grapefruit, cherries and apples and their importance on the UK marketplace. Valentine Warner, celebrity chef, author and show ambassador cut the ribbon to allow visitors down to the booths.

A full day’s business on the show floor and in packed seminar, chef-demonstration and student programmes was followed on Friday 6 June with four different delegate visits. There were retail, wholesale, production and quayside outings to a selection of supermarkets, New Covent Garden Market, Watts Farms and the London Gateway port.

Jim Prevor concluded: “This event is not a one-off. It is annual and it is forever.”
